Physical Health - Course Series 1000

  • Nutrition (1100) Courses pertaining to nutrition will create awareness for active participants around subjects that could impact personal health and change lives within families in the Overbrook community. Nutrition subjects will include detoxification, holistic nutrition, physical fitness, alternative healing methods, and much more. Classes will cover every aspect of holistic nutrition. Participants will gain hands-on experience by taking on case studies of detailed lifestyles and diet analysis of people they know as part of your final assessment.
  • Diet (1200) Diet courses will provide extensive coverage of diet therapy. Clinical descriptions for disease categories are followed by related medical nutrition therapy. Topics covered include dietary guidelines; menu planning; nutrition through the life cycle; client education; and medical nutrition therapy for cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, obesity, gastrointestinal disease, liver and renal disease, etc.
  • Exercise (1300) Exercise courses will utilize several exercise techniques to achieve a stronger and more balanced physique. Breathing techniques, proper form, and alignment are emphasized to maximize results for active participants regularly practiced on-site at the Overbrook Art Center and off-site at home.
  • Homeopathy (1400) Courses in Homeopathy will be designed for those who have a keen interest in the field of homeopathic medicine and would like to acquire strong basic knowledge and understanding of this medical art and science. It leads to a homeopathic introductory course certificate. The course consists of modules that may be taken either in the classroom or via the internet. Completion of the introductory course will allow for entry into advanced homeopathic certificate courses.
  • Toxicity Prevention (1500) Courses in Toxicity Prevention will raise awareness of hazards from chemicals and chemical products, to particular situations or circumstances, for example, agrochemicals stored in the home. These courses will also offer ways to prevent toxic exposures, for example by storing household products where they are inaccessible to children, and show participants how to use safety devices, such as child-resistant containers, for hazardous household products or medicines. There will also be guidelines provided on when and how to contact the local poison centre and how the poison centre can help the community.
  • Health Maintenance (1600) This course will describe the components of a Health Maintenance Organization and explore which characteristics are necessary to achieve excellent performance. Organizational structure, measurement indicators, and case examples will be used to get inside the workings of an HMO. Major emphasis will be on core operations, network and medical administration, marketing, and financial management. Some discussion of new product designs for the next generation of managed care based on what does the customer both the employer and patient want for the future.
  • Illness Detection & Prevention (1700) These courses gives active participants the opportunity to increase their knowledge of all aspects of substance abuse and diseases such as AIDS, as a catastrophic illness affecting individuals, families, and society. Emphasis on the prevention and detection of substance abuse and AIDS will be addressed as well as associated multidimensional well-being requirements.
  • Medicinal Remediation (1800) Courses in Medicinal Remediation will demonstrate the application of the scientific bases of health, disease, and medicine to common and high impact medical conditions in contemporary society. These courses describe the function of the healthy human body and each of its major organ systems at the macroscopic, microscopic, and molecular levels.
